Caddie Fame
"Tip"
Enters the Hall of Fame at the Open
St.
Andrews Citizen July 21, 2000.
Caddie
fame St Andrews caddie Tip Anderson was among the nominees into
the Professional Caddies Association Hall of Fame during the
Open. THE ‘‘forgotten’’ heroes of the golfing world received
some well-deserved recognition last week when three caddies
were honoured by the Professional Caddies Association. Arnold
Palmer’s well-known local caddy, James ‘‘Tip’’ Anderson, was
among the nominees inducted into the PCA’s Caddie Hall of Fame
last Tuesday, along with Peter Colman, who caddied for Bernhard
Langer, and Willie Aitchison, a caddy on the European Tour.
During the ceremony, in the Rusacks Hotel, St Andrews, the three
men were each presented with a Waterford Crystal clock and a
certificate. Representatives from the PCA had been in the townall
week to seek sponsorship for their plan to build a Caddie Hall
of Fame in or near St Andrews in the future. Members are hoping
it will follow in the footsteps of the first-ever Hall of Fame,
currently scheduled to open at the Golf Village in St Augustine,
Florida, in March of next year. The Professional Caddies Association
was set up three years ago, and in that time, has raised funds
for golfing scholarships and enlisted the support of many of
the major golfing associations to produce an unprecedented package
for caddies throughout the world. With a membership ofalmost
two-and-a-half thousand, the PCA is also busy developing a Caddie
Certification Programme and a Junior and Professional Apprentice
Programme. Further details on the work of the PCA from their
website at www.pcaworldwide. Published: 28.7.00 © Strachan &
